‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.’
down here, where there are no happily ever afters
only broken people, living broken lives that fall apart when
moments of peace piece something back together
of incomprehensible loss,
their prayers buzzing eternally in the courts of an isolated god
these shattered hearts that have become so accustomed to pain
uncorrupted is their devotion, flames that can’t be quenched
but the pain is good that is hurting them, light pain on a heavy rock will induce grave concerns,
drawn to the numbness
now there’s nothing more painful,
and greater the pain, greater the dosage
some horrors must remain
as memories remain broken mirrors to the soul
don’t take their brokenness away, it only numbs it
feeling no pain is more painful on this side of the world
it’s their portion, call it being those on the receiving end of an enchantment, a curse, an unforgivable sin
with faces downcast, like those banished from above
that’s when ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.’
down here, where there are no happily ever afters
only broken things, falling apart into a thousand moments
of incomprehensible loss
a gross miscalculation from the demiurge
to see these creatures suffer his failures
and to the sons of god, now accustomed to the pain of the living
corrupted by devotion, a cup of flames their portion
silent whispers that will never carry on,
the pain is good that is hurting them, light pain on a heavy rock will bruise them
but a mark on the face will abuse them
there’s nothing more pitiful
than a pitiless god
unable to forgive a precious cherub such as this,
the many horrors that must remain,
so don’t take their brokenness away, they will succumb
feeling no pain is more painful on his side of the world
they join this portion, the marooned, a mistaken creation, the us
with face downcast, like those banished from above
that’s how ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.’
